How To Be A DJ

You’ve come to the right website about DJing, now hopefully you’ve picked up a couple of DJ T-Shirts and want to become a DJ. Being a DJ can be quick and easy but with lots to learn. It can be tough to start though, do you get vinyl turntables or CDJs. How do you mix. What do you need to do to get started?

Here is our simple guide to becoming a DJ.

1. Decide what type of music you want to DJ. Do you like House music? Rock? Hiphop? This will determine what equipment you need to buy.

2. Go to a DJ store and try out some DJ equipment that fits your budget. Ask for advice relating to your music style.

3. Check out our youtube channel where you’ll find lots of DJ tutorial videos and equipment reviews.

4. Practise beatmatching and mixing.

5. Work on and create your best demo mix.

6. Get practise at friends house parties, clubs, raves or where ever you can DJ. Give your demo mix to a promoter and other people at parties.

Sounds pretty simple and thats because it is. However it’s easy to get stuck and struggle for months when learning to become a DJ.

Don’t try to learn by yourself how to DJ, follow our tips, tutorials and video tutorials. Following a book can be hard but by seeing how it’s done in our videos you can mimic and practise. Ignore advice from message board DJs, if they were superstar DJs they would not have time to post on a message board. Do meet up with other DJs and learn and practise with them.

Learning by yourself is the hardest way to fail so take your time watching our videos and learning from other DJs. You’ll have a lot of fun and pick things up quicker. As we said at the start it’s pretty easy to become a DJ but will take years of practise to learn and master everything.
